December 2017 Book Haul

Living between Europe and the US has some perks... and some drawbacks. For instance, all my books are in the US (and I have a LOT of books). Plus for many sites where I find good deals, the shipping to Europe is outrageous.

So, basically, over the last year I've occasionally ordered books when I've found some great deals and had them sent to my address in the US. This means that I got to open ALL of them at once when I got here for Christmas!

I also had a friend get me five ARCs of various books, totally as a surprise!!

So without further ado, my book haul:

The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
This includes Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, Winter, and Fairest. BookOutlet had the whole series for massively cheap for Black Friday!

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi
Totally a cover buy (also BookOutlet)! And I've heard great things about the story ;)

A Conjuring of Light by V. E. Schwab
I have this series in Kindle format and I NEEDED it in hardcopy... and I found a sale on BookOutlet!

A Darker Shade of Magic (collector's edition) by V. E. Schwab
It's BEAUTIFUL. And signed!

The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury
I read this book last year and it was one of my favorites! This copy was also ridiculously cheap on BookOutlet

No Good Deed by Kara Connolly
I got an eARC this summer and it is one of my favorites from this year!!! Got it used on Amazon, but perfect condition!

You Just Don't Understand by Deborah Tannen
Linguistics, yay! I studied Sociolinguistics and I love Tannen's work. This is one of her best books. Also got it used on Amazon.

Mother's Milk by Rachel Hunt Steenblik
Book of poems that's very popular in the LDS community. Black Friday sale!

Daughter of the Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller
I'd read this from the library and LOVED it, and so I got a past box from OwlCrate during a sale featuring this book!

The Divine Cities trilogy by Robert Jackson Bennett
I won this trilogy from a publisher's sweepstakes, which included finished copies of the first two and an ARC of the third.

Special edition of Pride & Prejudice!

ARCs:

The Dark Intercept by Julia Keller

Retribution Rails by Erin Bowman

Whichwood by Tahereh Mafi

Akata Warrior by Nnedi Okorafor

Unstoppable by Maria Sharapova

I'm so excited to bring these all back and fill out my bookshelves! Plus I'm excited to share all these books that I love with others!

Have you gotten any books lately that you're excited about?

I'm back!

I took a rather long hiatus, didn't I? Between work suddenly becoming very busy (I own my own business), a couple deaths in my family, and the holiday season, I haven't had the bandwidth to do much else. I have  been reading, and now I'm determined to keep up with my reviews again, especially for some eARCs that I still have. Anyway, look forward to some new posts, an updated Instagram, and more books!

Monthly Roundup - October 2016

Another month come and gone! I finished a total of eight books this month, bringing my total this year up to 80. I have two months to read 20 more books in order to reach my goal of 100 books this year! I think 10 a month is totally plausible ;) 1) Reawakened - Colleen Houck (3.5 stars) 2) Defy - Sara B. Larson (3 stars) 3) The Thousandth Floor - Katharine McGee (3 stars) 4) Like a River Glorious - Rae Carson (4 stars) 5) Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell (5 stars) 6) A Shadow Bright and Burning - Jessica Cluess (5 stars) 7) Replica - Lauren Oliver (3 stars) 8) The Female of the Species - Mindy McGinnis (5 stars) Save Save

Thursday Themes: Black Lives Matter

This post is especially for white people. We need to educate ourselves on what it means to be black in the US. Beyond listening to my POC (that's People of Color) friends when they speak about the injustices and prejudices they face, and following more POC on social media to gain a broader perspective, I also read as much as I can. These are six books I think are very helpful to understanding the history and reality of black people in the United States. Fiction 1) The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Starr witnesses her unarmed friend get shot by a police officer and decides to speak out. I think this book should be required reading in all schools. 2) Americanah   by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Ifemelu moves to the US from Nigeria and learns for the first time what it means to be "black". 3) The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead In this book, the Underground Railroad is a literal thing that helps Cora escape from slavery in Georgia. But with a slave...
