Anticipated November Releases

There are some great books coming out this month! I realize I mostly read SF/F and YA, but I think both of those genres have such talent and scope. What books are you look forward to this month? Let me know in the comments!

1) Blood for Blood - Ryan Graudin
Release date: 1 November

Sequel to Wolf by Wolf, this book picks up right where the first left off. Set in an alternate history where Germany and Japan won WWII, Yael is a shapeshifter who entered a cross-continental race with the objective to kill Hitler. Since failing at that, she's on the run, but she's learned that there are others out there like her.

2) The Sun is Also a Star - Nicola Yoon
Release date: 1 November

Natasha is cynic and Daniel is a romantic; they meet one fateful day on the streets of New York City. Is it love at first sight? This one has gotten a LOT of hype, so I'm interested to see if it lives up to that.

3) Timekeeper - Tara Sim
Release date: 8 November

Set in an alternate Victorian world, clocks literally control time. Danny works as a clock repair man, trying to figure out how to save his father, who is trapped in time. This one has been praised by a few authors I like, and the premise sounds intriguing.

4) Heartless - Marissa Meyer
Release date: 8 November

A backstory about the Queen of Hearts. Long before she became the terror of Wonderland, Catherine was just a girl who wanted to own a bakery and fall in love. I loved Meyer's Lunar Chronicles and I'm excited to see her take on the Wonderland tale.

5) Extreme Makeover - Dan Wells
Release date: 15 November

Dan Wells is one of those authors that I will just automatically read what he publishes because I've loved the rest of his work. In this book, a beauty company accidentally creates a lotion that will overwrite your DNA. Chaos and hilarity ensue.

6) Arcanum Unbounded - Brandon Sanderson
Release date: 22 November

A bunch of Sanderson's short stories and novellas, some previously published and some in print for the first time. Sanderson is one of my favorite authors, and his Cosmere is fantastically huge and detailed.

I'm back!

I took a rather long hiatus, didn't I? Between work suddenly becoming very busy (I own my own business), a couple deaths in my family, and the holiday season, I haven't had the bandwidth to do much else. I have  been reading, and now I'm determined to keep up with my reviews again, especially for some eARCs that I still have. Anyway, look forward to some new posts, an updated Instagram, and more books!

Monthly Roundup - October 2016

Another month come and gone! I finished a total of eight books this month, bringing my total this year up to 80. I have two months to read 20 more books in order to reach my goal of 100 books this year! I think 10 a month is totally plausible ;) 1) Reawakened - Colleen Houck (3.5 stars) 2) Defy - Sara B. Larson (3 stars) 3) The Thousandth Floor - Katharine McGee (3 stars) 4) Like a River Glorious - Rae Carson (4 stars) 5) Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell (5 stars) 6) A Shadow Bright and Burning - Jessica Cluess (5 stars) 7) Replica - Lauren Oliver (3 stars) 8) The Female of the Species - Mindy McGinnis (5 stars) Save Save

Thursday Themes: Black Lives Matter

This post is especially for white people. We need to educate ourselves on what it means to be black in the US. Beyond listening to my POC (that's People of Color) friends when they speak about the injustices and prejudices they face, and following more POC on social media to gain a broader perspective, I also read as much as I can. These are six books I think are very helpful to understanding the history and reality of black people in the United States. Fiction 1) The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas Starr witnesses her unarmed friend get shot by a police officer and decides to speak out. I think this book should be required reading in all schools. 2) Americanah   by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie Ifemelu moves to the US from Nigeria and learns for the first time what it means to be "black". 3) The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead In this book, the Underground Railroad is a literal thing that helps Cora escape from slavery in Georgia. But with a slave...
