In 2015 I managed to read 75 books! That tops the 62 I read in 2014. While I enjoyed almost every book I read, some of them stood out above the rest.
My Top Ten of 2015:
1) A Darker Shade of Magic - V. E. Schwab
A brilliant new fantasy with richly descriptive new worlds, engaging characters, and a fast-paced plot that makes you want to go on an adventure.
2) An Ember in the Ashes - Sabaa Tahir
The author's debut book, a fantastic YA fantasy with compelling and relatable characters, a fascinating and diverse world, and incredible prose that moves the story through each of its twists and turns.
3) Edenbrooke - Julianne Donaldson
Reminiscent of 'Pride & Prejudice', this is a wonderfully written story of finding love for a young woman in Regency-era England.
4) The Nightingale - Kristin Hannah
A tear-inducing story that follows the journeys of two sisters struggling to make a difference and stay alive in France during WWII.
5) The Martian - Andy Weir
A fast-paced science-fiction novel about one man's fight to survive when he's left alone on Mars.
6) Furiously Happy - Jenny Lawson
A hilarious non-fiction book that examines the author's struggles with anxiety and depression and her determination to not let it beat her.
7) Ready Player One - Ernest Cline
Especially for fans of video games or the movie TRON, another fast-paced, science-fiction book where the main character is in a race within a virtual reality world in order to win a massive inheritance.
8) Everything I Never Told You - Celeste Ng
Beautifully written, this is the story of a family struggling to find themselves following the death of their oldest daughter.
9) The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up - Marie Kondo
Non-fiction, this book will help you organize and tidy your home--and your life--once and for all.
10) Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore - Robin Sloan
A young man in San Francisco gets the nightshift at a peculiar bookstore, which leads him on a zany and hilarious adventure.
Honorable Mentions:
Walk On Earth A Stranger - Rae Carson
The Little Paris Bookshop - Nina George
